What Is Our Digital Detox Program?

PHP and IOP

Our Digital Detox Program at Omega Recovery is designed to address the growing concern of digital overuse and dependency, which can lead to serious mental health issues. Through our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), we provide structured and supportive environments where individuals can learn to reduce their screen time, understand the impact of digital media on their mental health, and develop healthier relationships with technology.

In the PHP phase, participants are engaged in a more immersive treatment setting, often requiring daily attendance that spans several hours. This intensive approach allows for a deeper dive into the psychological factors driving digital addiction, offering therapeutic activities and strategies tailored to each individual’s needs.

Transitioning to the IOP phase, clients are given more flexibility with their schedule, allowing them to apply what they’ve learned in a real-world setting while still receiving considerable support from our team. This blended approach ensures that as our clients reintegrate into their daily lives, they are better equipped to manage their digital consumption in a healthy way.

Throughout both phases of the Digital Detox Program, clients participate in individual counseling, group therapy sessions, educational workshops on the effects of digital media on brain health and social skills development. We also incorporate mindfulness practices and outdoor activities to encourage a more balanced lifestyle. Our goal is not only to help individuals curb excessive screen time but also to enhance overall well-being by fostering meaningful connections with themselves and others outside of digital realms.

At Omega Recovery We Understand

Treatment will be provided in both group and individual modalities and will also feature a weekly “parents and child” program. During the parent and child program, parents will learn more about mental health issues that may be impacting their kids—and, more importantly, the tools on how to best support their children.

This will also include a screen-time component as teens and parents will be given research and guidelines on how to best maintain healthy digital habits in our social media and gaming heavy world.

My background

I’m a psychologist and former Clinical Professor at Stony Brook Medicine in NY and the CEO and Chief Clinical Officer at Omega Recovery here in Austin. I’m also the author of the best-selling book “Glow Kids”, the seminal book on screen-time (social media; gaming) and the clinical impact on kids. I’ve also provided mental health services to school districts around the country and have worked with over 2,000 teens in the last 18 years. As one of the country’s top thought leaders on mental health and teens, I’ve appeared on Good Morning America, CNN, FOX & Friends, 20/20 and NPR. But perhaps even more importantly, I’m a parent of twin teenage boys and personally understand the challenges that our teens today are facing.
